There are a lot of toys out there.
Bright toys. Plastic toys. Toys that make a noise when you press a button. Toys that tell children exactly what to do.
And then there are the toys that become part of childhood.

Those are the toys I am looking for.
I'm Victoria, the founder of Four Kids Toys. I'm a mum, a home educator, a toy obsessive and someone who has spent years looking at toys through the eyes of both a parent and an educator.
I started this business because I couldn't find enough of the things I wanted for my own children.
Today, I choose toys for the same reason.
Not because we need more things.
Because I believe we need better things.

01. Reflect them
Play things that help children see their culture, faith and identity represented.
One of the things that has always stayed with me as a mum is how powerful it can be for a child to see something familiar reflected back at them.
A face that looks like theirs.
A celebration they recognise.
Letters from a language spoken at home.
A story that reminds them of their grandparents.
A toy that reflects their faith, culture or heritage.
These aren't just details.
They tell a child: this is part of you. This belongs to you.
The toy industry can sometimes present one very narrow idea of what childhood looks like. We want to make room for more childhoods.
More languages.
More traditions.
More families.
More ways of celebrating.
More ways of believing.
More ways of being.
So when I'm choosing something for Four Kids Toys, I'm not only asking whether it is beautiful or well made.
I'm asking:

And:
What might this help a child discover about themselves or the world around them?
02. Built to last
Quality materials and thoughtful design chosen to be loved for years.
I have always been drawn to wooden toys.
I love the weight of them in a child's hands. The warmth of natural materials. The simplicity. The fact that they don't need flashing lights or batteries to become something wonderful.
And I love the idea that a good toy doesn't have to be disposable.
It can be played with by one child, then passed to a sibling.
It can live in a nursery or classroom and be used by hundreds of little hands.
It can be packed away for a few years and rediscovered.
It can become one of those things that you remember from your childhood.
That's why quality matters to me.
I look for thoughtful design, beautiful materials and toys made to withstand real childhood — not just look lovely on a shelf.
Where possible, I also love working with small makers and independent businesses who care deeply about what they make.
Because when you buy something made with care, you can often feel the difference.
03. Leave room for imagination
Open-ended play that lets children create their story.
I don't want to give a child a toy and tell them exactly how to play with it.
I want to give them something and wonder what they will do with it.
A collection of wooden pieces can become a village.
A play cloth can become a sea.
A handful of figures can become a family.
A stack of blocks can become a home, a tower, a shop, a mosque, a castle or something that exists entirely in their imagination.
That's the beauty of open-ended play.
There isn't always a right answer.
There isn't always a finished picture to copy.
There is simply an invitation:
What could this become?
That kind of play gives children space to experiment, make decisions, tell stories, solve problems and build worlds of their own.
And sometimes, when we step back and let children lead, we're surprised by just how much they can create.
Chosen by a mum, not a catalogue
Four Kids Toys started while I was home educating my own children.
I wasn't looking at toys from behind a desk.
I was looking for them at the kitchen table.
I was choosing resources for our home. Watching how my children played. Noticing which things they returned to and which things were quickly forgotten.
And I discovered that finding beautiful, quality educational and wooden toys wasn't always easy.
So I started searching further.
I found small makers. I built relationships with independent businesses. I discovered products that I genuinely loved and began sharing them with other families.
Then nurseries and schools started buying from me.
Some came back again and again.
And slowly, Four Kids Toys became a community of families and educators who were looking for the same things I was looking for.
That still influences how I choose today.
I'm not interested in filling a website with hundreds of products simply because we can.
I'd rather find the right things.
Things I can imagine in your home.
Things I can imagine being used in a classroom.
Things I can imagine a child remembering.
For childhood, not just playtime
I believe toys can do more than keep children occupied.
They can open conversations.
They can introduce ideas.
They can help children practise a language.
They can make a family tradition tangible.
They can help a child explore where they come from.
They can give a child a way to recreate something they've experienced — or imagine somewhere they've never been.
And sometimes, they can simply give a child the freedom to disappear into their own little world for an afternoon.
That's valuable too.
Because childhood is short.
And I don't think every moment of it needs to be productive.
Sometimes children just need to play.
But if the things around them can also help them understand themselves, connect with others and make sense of the world, then that's something worth choosing carefully.
A small business with a big heart
Four Kids Toys is still a small, independent business.
That's important to me.
It means I can be curious.
I can discover a tiny maker I've never heard of and give them a place here.
I can listen to what families are looking for.
I can change direction when I realise something could be better.
And I can put meaning before mass.
Every product doesn't have to be for everyone.
But I want every product we choose to have a reason for being here.
Because behind every order is a real child.
A real family.
A real educator.
And a real childhood that only happens once.
